-There is racism? -"No! Well... it's hidden"

In almost every part of the world people talk about not being racist, and how the racism is one the worst things in life. But the reality is different.

Actually, in almost every part of the world, in some degree, there is racism. Is just that... it is hidden. Like Maria Rondon says: "racism floats in the air".

In Colombia, for example, the 76% of Afrocolombians lives in poverty, and the 42% is unemployed.

Racism, together with homophobia and stereotypes of beauty, are things that you can find in our country. Even though many people is trying to change that, we're still a very conservative country, and, whether we like it or not, that is related with terms such as homophobia and racism.

I think this video (Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OiGKIO722HA ) can show the hidden reality of many countries, It also can serve as an example to Maria Rondon, to demonstrate that the message of her movie is absolutely right, and we should open our eyes and accept that this is our reality, this is our world.

HOWEVER, what are you waiting?! Do something to change that! We CAN'T keep being like that. We have to try to eliminate the problem for good.

So... what do you think?

Cultural Appropriation. Bangkok's Mexican Gangsters

What is cultural appropiation? This term is refering to a process where a group of people decide to adopt the charasteristics of a subculture. Take the example of these "Bankok's Mexican Gangsters". During the day they're regular and normal guys who have regular jobs, such as police, government worker, teacher etc.; but, when the night comes, they become in gangsters, specifically, "Mexican Gangsters". They adopt their clothes, their music, tattoos and other things that make them feel that they are Mexican gangsters.

However, in my personal opinion? Why these people want to be something bad? A guy said that the clothing is the best, that you only have to wear a t-shir, jeans and a pair of tennis. But then, another guy said that they don't do anything bad. We all know that Mexican gangster are not a good thing, right? Well, they adopted the characteristics of a subculture to become like them , but not all of them. Lastly, I really don't think that this affects at all to real Mexican gansters,

I believe people often do not take well cultural appropiation... Take a look to this image

Introduction

My name is Elizabeth Verbel, I'm eighteen years old and I'm in fifth semester of psychology at the Universidad del Norte in Barranquilla, Colombia. I was born in Barranquilla and I have lived my whole life here, and I think that it is a very happy city, where you can have so much fun. When the time comes, celebration, food, dance, joy and many more things arrives to the city and its people. However, I am different from almost every person I know; I, personally, prefer quite; since I don't dance so much, I'm not a "carnavalera" person.

One thing that I love to do is to learn about other people and their culture. But... the things that I love the most are two: to read books and watch movies about mystery and crimes, and to learn about  human mind and behavior, specially of the criminal insane people. It's really interesting, you know?

I've never really travel around the world, but that is something that I definitely want to do. Not just to see the scenery or eat their food, but also to learn about the people. Human behavior  is different in every part of the world due to something named "culture", and that
is something just... fantastic!

P.S. I started this blog because of an assignment, but I plan to use it and to enjoy it!
